Welcome to Savvy Homeschooler. This little space on the web is dedicated to helping you thrive as a homeschooling family. Whether you're brand new to homeschooling or a veteran, you'll find tricks of the trade as well as what I have done as a homeschooling mom to not only stay sane but also find joy in the every day.

ABOUT

I’ve been homeschooling for eight years and through the ups and downs, I know that it has been the best decision for our family. I hope to show you that homeschooling is not a superpower, but it can be incredibly empowering.

I also find great joy in teaching fitness classes and creating in the kitchen and in my home. As a homeschooling mom, I have found it is so important to find your own outlet and find time for those passions. It can be tricky to find a balance between teaching your children and your hobbies, but I’ve found that as I do, I’m a much happier mother and wife and my children and husband are happier as well.

hi, I'm Heather

We're are the Hamm family, living in the beautiful PNW. Just like you, we're juggling work, life, carpool, church, activities, and the never-ending piles of laundry.  I talk to women every day who want to make the transition to homeschool, yet are terrified at the prospect. I'm here to show you how to bring homeschool into your home, to remind you that no one loves or is more vested in your child than you. I want to help you love the process. It's not all easy, but it's so worth it.

David O. McKay

"The Home is the first and most effective place to learn the lessons of life: truth, honor, virtue, self control, the value of education, honest work, and the purpose and privilege of life. Nothing can take the place of home in rearing and teaching children, and no other success can compensate for failure in the home."

-Tamara L. Chilver

"If i had to sum up homeschooling in one word, it would be ... freedom.
Freedom to learn at our own pace. Freedom to choose what curriculum to use and which paths to take. freedom to appreciate the simplicity of teaching and how less is really more. freedom to teach real lessons for the real world. freedom to have fun while learning. freedom to encourage creativity and out-of-the-box ideas. freedom to explore our own interests and try something new. freedom from comparing ourselves to others. freedom from fuilt because i may feel like i am not doing enough. freedom to step off the highway of learning to take the more scenic route along a dirt road. freedom to slow down and enjoy every minute god has entrusted me to educate my children. freedom to love learning".

-Stephen Downes

"We need to move beyond the idea that an education is something provided for us, and toward the idea that an education is something that we create for ourselves."

-Art Williams

"I'm not telling you it's going to be easy--
I'm telling you it's going to be worth it."

-John Holt

"Why do people take or keep their children out of school? Mostly for three reasons: they think that raising their children is their business not the government's; they enjoy being with their children and watching them learn; they want to keep them from being hurt, mentally, physically, and spiritually."
